The BBC’s Newsround has spotlighted the report from Sport England which shows that children from a BAME background are less likely to take part in sport or physical activity.

Sport England said that only 45% of children between five and 16 are active for at least 60 minutes a day. When it comes to children from BAME backgrounds, the number is even lower.

Lisa O'Keefe, Sport England's Director of Insight, told Newsround that children are more likely to take part in a sport if they are 'physically literate'.

This means that they: Feel competent and confident with sport or exercise; Understand why it's good for them; Know how and where to get involved; and enjoy being active and playing sport.
